It is always worth making the effort to get to the monthly BCSA "Get to Know You" Social and September was no exception.
This month the effort was leaving work in St Mellons, Cardiff at 4pm to get the 4:30pm train to Paddington arriving at 6:30pm and catching a couple of tubes to West Hampstead to be there more or less on 7pm. This is the official start time but, as usual, a few people arrived early and so it was straight in to the Pilsner Urquell and the conversations.
The lively conversations continued until last orders were called around 10:30pm and we were politely asked to leave. Somewhere along the line we all ate and for me that meant the traditional Smazeny Syr.
The other tradition I kept was to end the evening with a bottle of Zlaty Bazant. Somehow it seems fair to drink both Czech and Slovak beer during these socials.
Most of the conversations evaporated, like most pub talk does, and the only fragments that linger in my memory were about Brno, a hotel in Berlin that Jana and I have both stayed at, train journeys and Vienna. I could take notes to make the write-ups more informative (and accurate) but that would rather spoil the mood of the evening and the mood is the reason for going.
