I oppose the Board of Deputies of British Jews' pledges for Labour Party leadership candidates for three simple reasons:
- There are other forms of racism and discrimination. A meaningful pledge should address all of them to ensure complete coverage and consistently.
- There are other Jews with other opinions. The Labour Party should listen to all Jewish voices but Pledge 5 stops that.
- There are other organisations that need to tackle racism/anti-semitism. If Pledges are useful then they should be drafted for adoption by all organisations. It is ridiculous to pick on one organisation, the Labour Party, when there is no evidence to say that the problem is greater there than elsewhere.
